After a 3 1/2 hour car ride there,we made it to Memorial Hall about an hour early. We got in and went to the merchandise "booth".I was really surprised at how many shirts and stuff they had for sale. The stuff Hole had for sale was a black shirt with a pic of them(minus Sam or Patty)and tour dates from the Manson/Hole tour on the back(I got that one),a white shirt with blue writing that said "Hole '99"on the front and tour dates on the back(I don't know whether they were for the Manson tour or their tour),a green shirt that said "Extra Strength Hole" on the front and had ingredients on the back(such as gallon of chocolate, marshmallows, ect.),a black shirt that had their new logo in glittery pink(the logo is HOLE with a heart for the O and an X thru the heart),a black shirt that had the new logo and 2 cherries on the front and the back said "tastes like candy" and they had a white girls shirt that said "Hole|Celebrity Skin" and had the red ballet slippers that are pictured in the album. They also had a silver pendant,a hat with the new logo,2 sparkly shiny stickers with the new logo(one yellow, one red I bought the red),and they had teddy bears that were white with red bows on their ears and they had a white shirt with red trim and it had the new logo in red.Imperial Teen had a CD,a vinyl, and 2 shirts(one is white with teal glitter writing that said Imperial Teen and one is red with one of those pictures of the woman with a triangle for a skirt that are on public women's restrooms.
After about 45 minutes,(30 of which were spent getting yelled at by a VERY rude "event staff" woman)the lights went out and Imperial Teen came out. They were really, really awesome. They played "Yoo-Hoo" and alot of other songs.Plus, they all switched instruments several times during their set and that was cool. They didn't talk hardly at all, they just came out there and ROCKED.Some of their songs are really good.(live at least,I dunno about on CD)but I REALLY recommend them!!!They deserve recognition!!
Then approximately 50 minutes later(which was passed by talking to Jacqui about how bad the music they were playing over the speakers was and making fun of people who were really stoned and dancing around like idiots),the lights again went out and the Old Age/Credit In The Sraight World organ intro came over the speakers. Then,THERE THEY WERE!!!!!Courtney looked beautiful. She had on a hot pink bikini top w/rhinestones around the cleavage area. She had on the bikini bottoms but we didn't find out about that till later.Over the bottoms she had on a cream colored silk skirt and over it all she had on a see thru, skin tight skin colored, knee length dress. She had a hot pink net around her waist and hot pink flats. Her new haircut is blonde(duh),short and choppy. It looks GREAT.She had her little sequins in her hair and when she head banged they flew out.Melissa had on a leopard fur short skirt and a black tank top.She had a see through white sash wrapped around her.She also had her knee high boots.Sam had a blue tank top and a white button up short shirt. She had jeans and spiked hair.Eric,of course, wore all black.
Then they blasted into "Violet" and it was SOOO AWESOME!!!Afer "Violet" Courtney found this girl in the mosh pit who she said"...looks more like me than anyone I've ever seen.Get her up here!!!" The security guards lifted her up and she got to sit there the entire time!!!Plus when they sang "Miss World" and "Awful" Courtney put her arm around the girl and made her sing into the mic with her!!!(I WAS SOOOO JEALOUS!!!!)Courtney was in a pretty chatty mood. She said that "this is the smallest audience we've played for in a long time!!" They sang the show tune "Kansas City" and it was very cute(funny, whatever). She said being a small audience has it's advantages because we were a "test audience" meaning they tested stuff on us to see how we reacted(i.e."Hit So Hard" which had previously never been played live). She said "Who wants me to take off my shirt?!" Of course everyone screamed. She said it depends on how many people lit their lighters.Apparently, there wasn't enought cos the farthest she ever got was her bikini top.She said the "reason the crowd it so small was because she was still scarry to Mid-America."She said "I'm in a movie with Jim Carrey for heaven's sake, doesn't that make me fuckin' normal yet?!Oh well,I still like being scarry."And "I wish I was as cool as the Spice Girls.Maybe when Frances is 14 she'll finally think we're cool." She talked about how she passed up the Matrix. And if she wouldn't have passed it up she wouldn't be on tour now.She said the reason she passed it up was because "she would have to be the damn girlfriend and who wants to be the damn girlfriend?Plus I would much rather be here in Kansas City!!" During the course of the show she picked probably 15-20 girls to come sit on stage. She said "I swear to God,if I were a lesbian I'd be SOOO fucking lucky tonight cos there are so many hot girls here!!"
NOW BACK TO THE MUSIC...During "Awful" she improvised and yelled "if the world is so wrong/yeah you can fuck them all with one song!" and flipped us off when she said that.Of course her foot was up on the monitor in her "trademark postion" but not as much as she used to put it up there. In fact she doesn't even play guitar for about 40% of the show anymore. She has a cordless mic and she danced and walked around. She got up on top of the amps and right in front of the speakers and layed against them with her arms out like she was being crucified. And she flashed us her bikini bottoms.During "Boys On The Radio",she got off stage and walked around on the floor and touched almost everyone on the first 2 row's hand. That is practically the only contact she had with the non moshpitters.Me and Jacqui were on the 2nd row but noone was in front of us,so we had GREAT seats we could see everything PERFECT!!I swear Courtney looked straight at me(but one can only dream!!!)She was in such a COOL mood!!!During "Dying" they had a backdrop which looked like a scene from ancient Rome or something to that effect.I think it was left there for the rest of the show but I wasn't really paying attention to the backdrop!!:)On the part of "Dying" where it goes from quiet to loud in the middle of the song on the CD,she really rocked hard at the show!!!When it went from quiet to loud there were like little cannons of some sort that exploded and blew big pieces of shiny sliver confetti everywhere. With the lighting it looked so cool.(I still have some of it). After they sang "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" Courtney said "That was some cool 60's punk for ya!"Then she said(in a southern drawl)"Betcha don't got alot of that out here in Kansas do ya?!You can go home and listen to your Britney Spears and your parent's Aaron Nevill(or some other country singer I can't remember)!" Then they sang a few more songs and then they left.Even though it seemed like it had only been 20 minutes,it had been about 1 hour and 45 minutes or 2 hours!!!
We cheered and clapped and stomped and light lighters and made the little heart out of our fingers that Courtney told us was their new symbol and told us to do it if we love them. She and Eric came out about 20-25 minutes later. He used and acoustic guitar and they played "Pale Blue Eyes" and "Northern Star"(just Eric and Courtney). It was SOOO beautiful. It is hard to listen to those songs now. Then Melissa and Sam came back out.Eric and Melissa wore the same thing that they wore during the concert.Sam did too except her white shirt was now around her head like a turban. And Courtney had on her bikini, her skirt and a ripped up black AC/DC shirt with silver writing.(The AC/DC shirt was removed during "Hit So Hard" and it got caught on her ear monitor box that was clipped on the skirt so a worker had,or let me say *got*,to come take off her shirt for her.*LUCKY*)She still had on the bikini top though. Then Courtney told them all what they were playing next and then Sam started swirling her drum sticks above her head and then played this really cool 80's metal drum beat.Courtney made us clap our hands along to the beat. Then they blasted into "Cum On Feel The Noize" by Quiet Riot!!!!!!IT WAS SOOOOO COOOL!!!Definately one of the high points of the show!!Then without stopping they rocked into "Celebrity Skin"!!!More confetti blew through the air conditioner vents. This time it was HUGE red and white circles. Then it was all over :( 2 of the "stage girls" got guitars cos they were fighting over the 1 she was gonna originally hand out. Some got shoes, one got the hot pink net thing.(JEALOUSY)Then Courtney left. Then Sam came out and spinned her drum sticks and threw them into the crowd she also threw her white shirt.Eric and Sam got in a mock fight and started pushing each other. And Melissa just walked off.
While we were walking out,the Malibu remix was on.All I can say is...I DON'T CARE TOO MUCH FOR IT!!!All in all, this turned out to be *THE BEST* of my enitre life!!!(Even if I did only get 2 pictures before the same lady who had yelled at me twice before yelled at me for using flash photography!!)
I got:2 shirts,some confetti,a sticker and the bear!!!
Lemme just say this:NEVER PASS UP THE OPPURTUNITY TO ATTEND A HOLE CONCERT!!!IT WILL BE THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE I PROMISE!!!
